Description
The Phalaenopsis plant is an orchid of Asian origin. It is found in great abundance in the Philippines. They are usually found on tree trunks, protected by their canopies, in environments that offer good light (no direct sun on the plant/root) and high humidity. Another thing that makes an orchid so special is that it is an epiphytic plant, meaning that it also draws moisture from the air.

It prefers bright, indirect light, but can tolerate medium light. Direct exposure to the sun, especially during the hottest hours of the day, can burn the leaves. Ideally, it should be placed near a window facing east or west.
It should be watered by immersion approximately once a week. Place the pot in a container of water for about 15-20 minutes, allowing the substrate to absorb the water. Then let the water drain well before putting the plant back in its place.
It thrives at temperatures between 18°C and 30°C. Night-time temperatures should not fall below 15°C. Avoid sudden changes in temperature, which can stress the plant.
It prefers a relative humidity of between 50% and 70%. In environments dried, it can benefit from a humidifier or trays with water and stones, where the base of the pot does not touch the water directly.
Use a specific substrate for orchids, consisting of pine bark, charcoal and coconut fiber, which ensures good drainage and aeration of the roots.
It needs fertilizing every two weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) with a specific fertilizer for orchids, diluted to half the recommended dose.
Remove wilted flowers and dried leaves to stimulate new growth. Cutting the flower stem about a centimeter above the node after flowering can encourage new flowering on the same stem.
Keep an eye out for common pests such as mealybugs, aphids and mites. If you detect pests, treat with appropriate insecticides or homemade solutions such as insecticidal soap.
The flower stalks may need a support or stake to keep them upright and prevent them from breaking under the weight of the flowers.
The Phalaenopsis orchid is not toxic to humans or pets, making it an excellent choice for homes with children and animals.
